BRISTOL, R.I. — The Maine Maritime Academy men's wrestling team opened its 2025–26 season on Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational, finishing ninth overall with 11 team points.
At 141 pounds, freshman
Ronan Bradley dropped an 8-3 decision in his opening match before falling by pin in his second. Sophomore
Trevor Llewellyn, also competing at 141, lost both of his matches by fall.
At 149 pounds, sophomore
Gavin Ripley went 2-2 on the day. After an 8-4 decision loss in his first match, he bounced back with two decisive wins in the consolation bracket — a 13-4 major decision and a 14-1 victory — before being eliminated by an 18-2 technical fall.
Freshman
Alec Rego competed at 157 pounds, finishing 0-2 with losses by pin and major decision.
At 165 pounds, freshman Nicholas Daniel also went 0-2, with both defeats coming by fall.
The Mariners had two wrestlers in the 197-pound division. Freshman
Andrew Morrow finished 0-2 with losses by technical fall and pin, while sophomore
Kyle Stickel went 1-2. Stickel fell by pin in his opening bout, rebounded with a dominant 19-3 technical fall win, and was pinned in his final match.
Freshman
Takuma Steinberger went 1-2 at 285 pounds, dropping his opener 13-8 by decision, earning a pin in his second match, and finishing the day with a narrow 3-1 decision loss.
The Mariners return to action on Saturday for a tri-meet on the road against New England College and Emmanuel College in Henniker, New Hampshire.
