WENHAM, Mass.—The Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse team spotted host Gordon College an early lead, but then reeled off 10 unanswered goals en route to a convincing 16-3 non-conference win over the Fighting Scots at the Brigham Athletic Complex on Tuesday. Maine Maritime improves to 2-1 on the season while Gordon drops to 0-3.

Maine Maritime Highlights
  • Sophomores Lillian Diversi (5 goals, 1 assist) and Julia Wade (4g, 2a) paced the offense with six points apiece. Diversi also had a game-high five ground balls.
  • Seniors Hazel Stoddard (3g, 2a) and Kirra Magana (2g, 3a) chipped in five points apiece. Magana also notched a game-high six draw controls.
  • Junior Rebecca Caron also had a multi-point game with two goals and two assists.
  • Starting junior goalie Ella Bowes made eight saves for the win.
Gordon Highlights
  • Caroline Piorkowski led the team with a pair of goals.
  • Kaitlyn Mini had the Scots other goal and she also had an assist.
  • Kayla Davidson led all student-athletes with three caused turnovers and topped the team with five ground balls.
How it Happened
  • After Gordon took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Piorkowski 1 minute and 24 seconds after the opening draw control, MMA responded with a run of 10 unanswered goals to take a commanding 10-1 halftime lead.
  • Diversi scored 42 seconds later to tie the game and Wade put the Mariners ahead for good at the 10:37 mark.
  • Diversi added another goal with MMA on the man-up to wrap up the first quarter scoring and give the visitors a 3-1 lead.
  • The Mariners outscored the Fighting Scots in the second quarter, 7-0.
  • Besides the scoreboard, MMA also dominated statistical categories including shots (36-20), shots on goal (26-11), draw controls (14-9), ground balls (26-19) and clears (14-for-17, 10-for-17).
