CASTINE--Maine Maritime Academy Sailing spent the weekend racing in two different competitions in two different locales, with positive results.
In an open dinghy event, Maine Maritime captured the four-school Mike Horn Race it hosted on Penobscot Bay. The Mariners went 8-1, followed by McGill University at 7-2, UMass at 3-6 and Amherst College was 0-9.
In New London, Conn., where MMA competed in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy J70 Invitational#3, the Mariners ended up third with 46 points out of nine teams. Maine Maritime was the runner-up in four races and third in four others, and trailed the overall runner-up host school by just eight points.
The Mariners round out the academic school year schedule on April 29-30 at the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association Reed Trophy in a Women's Dinghy District Championship.
