CASTINE--Maine Maritime Academy hosted the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association Dinghy Tournament on Penobscot Bay over the weekend with positive results, finishing in fourth place in the nine-school event with 71 points.
Only Fairfield University (35 points), Salve Regina University (47) and Bates College (59) finished ahead of MMA.
Maine Maritime started slow on Saturday with one top-3 showing with a runner-up in the Division 2B race, but the Mariners put together five top-3 finishes over the last seven--including runner-up in 5B, 7A and 8B. Freshman
Jane Marvin was the skipper in Division A, while junior
Griffin Stolp piloted the Division B boat. Teammates sophomore
Taber Allen and freshman
Simone Ford joined Marvin's crew and junior
William Ries was part of Stolp's crew. Senior
Amelia Griffith served as a reserve.
The Mariners race again on Saturday for the MMA Mike Horn Team Open Dinghy right here on Penobscot Bay, and also Saturday-Sunday at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy J70 Invitational#3 in New London, Conn.
