CASTINE, Maine – Sam Nichol (Concord, N.H.) has been named a 2025 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American.

Nichol becomes just the fourth Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse player to earn this prestigious honor, joining Nicholas Betti (2015), Nathan Granholm (2020), and Danny Stash (2024). He was one of 138 Division III players selected nationwide and the only representative from the North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

The 2025 NAC Man of the Year recipient, Nichol graduated in May with a degree in Marine Systems Engineering, along with minors in Mathematics and Naval Architecture. He earned a 3.83 GPA, was named to the Dean's List every semester, and garnered numerous academic accolades, including three Academic All-District selections, the NAC Senior Scholar-Athlete award, and Maine Maritime's Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

On the field, Nichol was a four-year starter at midfield, a two-year team captain, and helped lead the Mariners to three NAC Championships. He finished his career ranked second in program history in career points (238) and third in goals (163). He was a three-time First Team All-Conference selection and participated in both the NEILA East-West Senior All-Star Game and the USILA North-South All-Star Game.

In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II, and III.
