CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team overcame an early deficit to earn a 3-1 North Atlantic Conference win over SUNY Delhi on Sunday at Ritchie Field.
SUNY Delhi (1-5-0, 0-2-0 NAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:29 into the first half. Midway through the half, junior
Abby Wong pulled the Mariners even, converting on a free kick to tie the match 1-1.
Both teams finished the opening half with five shots, though all five of MMA's attempts landed on frame.
MMA (4-0-0, 2-0-0 NAC) took control in the second half. Junior
Sophia Hernandez scored the eventual game-winner just over seven minutes in, burying a one-timer off a cross from freshman
Tarin Barrett.
With time winding down, back-to-back yellow cards against the Broncos set up another MMA free kick. Wong delivered a ball into the box that freshman
Natalee Orr finished to seal the 3-1 victory.
MMA outshot Delhi 13-1 in the second half and put five shots on target. Wong led the attack with seven shots, including four on goal, while Hernandez and junior
Lillyanna Ash added three attempts apiece.
