WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday in a tri-match against Middlebury College and Williams College, falling 3-0 in both contests.
In the opening match, Middlebury (9-4) edged Maine Maritime (7-5) 25-22 in the first set and followed with a 25-23 win in the second before closing out the sweep with a 25-15 victory.
Junior
Sydney Williams recorded a 13-kill, 13-dig double-double for the Mariners. Junior
Ally Hadley added eight kills, while senior
Sophia Biggie chipped in six. Hadley and freshman
Ayla Altman each served three aces, while seniors
Hunnie Zuber-Stephens and
Ila Smith posted two blocks apiece. Zuber-Stephens also tallied a team-high 27 assists to go with seven digs, and Hadley added six digs.
In the finale, Williams (11-1) took the first two sets 25-24, 25-24 before holding off a late Mariners push with a 25-22 win in the third.
Williams led the Mariners with 10 kills, while Altman posted two aces. Smith and Williams each finished with three blocks, and Zuber-Stephens contributed 17 assists and eight digs. Sophomore
Hannah Tate added eight digs, and Williams recorded seven.
Maine Maritime returns home to host the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Oct. 7 in its North Atlantic Conference opener at 6 p.m.
