BIDDEFORD, Maine — Sophomore
William Spaulding and senior
Cooper Parlee helped pace the Maine Maritime Academy men's cross-country team to a third-place finish at the Ron Ouellette Invitational hosted by the University of New England on Saturday.
Spaulding nearly took home individual medalist honors, finishing runner-up behind the University of Southern Maine's Michael Cyr with a time of 16 minutes, 13.8 seconds.
Parlee clocked 16:55.5 to finish ninth overall, while freshman Owen Dawson, in his first collegiate race, posted a 17:23.8 to finish 13th as the Mariners' third scoring runner.
Sophomore
Caden Dussault finished 20th with a time of 17:57.0, and senior Kaden Horner, competing in his first collegiate race, recorded a 19:08.8 to round out the Mariners' top-five scoring runners.
MMA finished one point behind UNE for second place, posting a score of 70 to the Nor'easters' 69. USM claimed the team title with a final score of 21.

John McBane (19:54.7), freshman Asher Michalski (20:21.1), junior Joseph Valliere (20:55.7), freshmen Daniel Soma (21:37.1), Matthew Tita (21:59.5) and Trevor Beams (22:53.5), senior
Jonathan Manning (23:05.8) and junior
Samuel Siedzik (30:27.0).
The Mariners will now turn their attention to the State of Maine Intercollegiate Championship on Sept. 20, hosted by Bowdoin College.
