BANGOR, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy put together a strong offensive effort but came up just short in a 92-85 setback to Husson University in North Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Newman Gymnasium.
Maine Maritime (7-13, 7-6 NAC) stayed within striking distance throughout, cutting into Husson's lead multiple times behind balanced scoring and hot perimeter shooting. Maine Maritime knocked down 13 three-pointers and shot 46.4 percent from the floor, but the Eagles were able to answer each run down the stretch.
Freshman
Drew Hamilton led the Mariners with 25 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field, while sophomore
Marcus Schade added 24 points, including five three-pointers. Junior
Jack Banks finished with 16 points and six rebounds, and freshman
Aaron Pensel chipped in 12 points to round out the Maritime scoring over Husson (12-7, 11-2 NAC).
Despite the loss, Maine Maritime showed resilience on the road, matching Husson's scoring in the second half and continuing to generate offense against one of the conference's top teams.
Maine Maritime returns home Friday, hosting Thomas College at 5:30 p.m. in its next North Atlantic Conference matchup.
