Pool records fall in men’s swimming & diving’s home dual victory over Husson

CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy posted a strong all-around performance to defeat Husson University, 174–120, in men's swimming & diving action Friday afternoon at Bok Pool breaking five pool records.

The Mariners picked up key victories in both distance events, led by freshman B Boyer, who swept the freestyle distance races, setting pool records in both events. Boyer touched first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a winning time of 10:38.04 before returning later to capture the 500-yard freestyle in 5:06.12. Senior James Creegan added a runner-up finish in both events to provide valuable points for MMA.

Maine Maritime also excelled in the sprints and stroke events. Freshman Connor Hedstrom delivered a pair of wins, taking both the 50-yard (24.03) and 100-yard butterfly (53.14) setting two pool records and winning the 100-yard backstroke (56.07), while also anchoring the Mariners' second-place 400-yard freestyle relay. Senior Aidan Burke claimed victories in both the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke, posting times of 29.49 and 1:06.63, respectively.

In the pool's middle distances, freshman Matthew Levesque recorded a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, and freshman Dominic Miele contributed multiple top-three finishes, including a podium spot in the 200-yard individual medley.

Maine Maritime's depth was on full display in diving, where senior Oliver Cox swept both one-meter diving events, scoring 250.40 (posting a new pool record score) and 159.90 points. Michael Ordonez and Joe Smith IV added additional scoring efforts to help secure the team victory.

The Mariners also collected points in relay action, finishing second in the 400-yard medley relay and placing multiple entries in the 400-yard freestyle relay to cap off the meet beating Husson 170-120 on the afternoon.

Maine Maritime returns to action Friday on the road in Lewiston against Bates College and the University of New England.
