CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team ran past Thomas College 63-43 Friday night in North Atlantic Conference play at Smith Gymnasium backed by a strong all-around defensive team effort.
Maine Maritime (13-7, 12-2 NAC) built a lead early and never looked back, opening with an 11-4 first quarter advantage and keeping Thomas (12-8, 8-5 NAC) at bay throughout the night. Maine Maritime outscored the Terriers in every quarter en route to the 20-point victory.
Sophomore
Addison Forry led the Mariners with 14 points and 12 rebounds, anchoring the inside game and pacing Maine Maritime on both ends of the floor. Freshman
Savannah Ferguson added 11 points, while senior
Grace Huntwork chipped in eight and freshman
Addison Ivery contributed six in a balanced scoring effort.
Maine Maritime shot an impressive 90 percent from the free-throw line, while the defense limited Thomas College to just 30.4 percent shooting overall. The Mariners also held a decisive edge on the boards and in bench scoring.
With the win, Maine Maritime strengthened its position atop the NAC standings and showcased depth and versatility on both ends of the court.
Maine Maritime hosts Lesley University at home on Saturday at 3 p.m. for senior day.
