CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy used a balanced offensive attack and strong shooting to post a convincing 90-48 win over Lesley University on Saturday afternoon at Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners (9-13, 9-6 North Atlantic) jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back, leading 58-32 at halftime and cruising through the second half behind efficient scoring from multiple contributors.
Freshman
Drew Hamilton paced the offense with 22 points, knocking down 8 of 15 from the floor, while sophomore
Marcus Schade added 13 and freshman
Aaron Pensel chipped in 11 with a team-high 12 rebounds in the win. Junior
Jack Banks scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds as part of the deep Mariners attack.
Maine Maritime shot 49.3 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the free-throw line, helping the Mariners extend their lead throughout the game. Prior to the game, the Mariners honored senior
Josiah Dancy who finished with seven points and a game-high six assists.
With the victory, Maine Maritime continues North Atlantic Conference play and now sets its sights on its next challenge on the road Friday against Vermont State University Lyndon at 5:30 p.m.
