Castine, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy's women's basketball team rolled to a dominant 92–35 North Atlantic Conference victory over Vermont State University Johnson on Monday at Smith Gymnasium.
Maine Maritime (7-4, 7-0 NAC) set the tone early and never looked back, using balanced scoring and strong defensive pressure to control the game from start to finish. MMA shot 46.7 percent from the field, knocked down timely perimeter looks and converted 72.2 percent from the free-throw line. The Mariners also received a strong boost from their bench, which accounted for 39 points against VTSU Johnson (3-10, 2-4 NAC).
Sophomore
Addison Forry led Maine Maritime with 17 points and 10 rebounds, recording a double-double in limited minutes. Freshman
Aliyah Lambo and senior
Evelyn Dagan each added 13 points, while junior
Hailey Blanchard finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Freshman
Savannah Ferguson chipped in nine points as the Mariners placed multiple players in the scoring column.
Defensively, Maine Maritime limited VTSU-Johnson to just 35 points, forcing tough shots throughout the contest and holding the Badgers well below their season averages.
Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 6, when it hosts Vermont State University Lyndon at 3 p.m.
