CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy rolled to an 86–35 victory over Vermont State University-Lyndon on Tuesday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball matchup at Smith Gymnasium.
Maine Maritime (8-4, 8-0 NAC) used balanced scoring and relentless pressure to pull away early and never looked back, holding Lyndon (8-5, 3-3 NAC) to five points in the opening quarter and forcing 29 turnovers on the afternoon.
The Mariners placed five players in double figures and dominated the glass, 65–32. Senior
Evelyn Dagan led the Mariners with 15 points, knocking down four 3-pointers and adding four steals.
Sophomore
Addison Forry posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while senior
Jacquelin Castro finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Junior
Hailey Blanchard added 10 points and nine rebounds as the Mariners controlled the paint and transition game. Freshman
Savannah Ferguson and sophomore
Rylee Smith chipped in eight points apiece as Maine Maritime scored 34 points off turnovers and closed the game with a 29-point fourth quarter.
Maine Maritime shot 37.2 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from beyond the arc, while its defense set the tone throughout, limiting Lyndon to 14.6 percent shooting overall.
