LYNDONVILLE, Vt. — The Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer team scored three goals in the first half and added two more after halftime to earn a 5-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over Vermont State University Lyndon on Saturday.
Sophomore
Connor Butler opened the scoring at 12:34, finishing a pass from senior
James Baur. Baur doubled the lead at 18:20 with an assist from senior
Mason Quiet.
Senior
Holden Nichols added Maine Maritime's third goal at 43:13, assisted by senior's
Matthew Villeneuve and
Aiden Burr, giving the Mariners a 3-0 advantage at halftime.
Maine Maritime continued its offensive pressure in the second half. Freshman
Seamus MacDonald scored at 62:11, and Sophomore
Carson Luedtke added another goal at 64:10 on an assist from senior
Connor Phelan to make it 5-0.
The Mariners finished with 25 shots, including 14 on goal, and earned five corner kicks. MacDonald led Maine Maritime with four shots and four shots on goal. Nichols added three shots and one goal, while Baur recorded two shots, two shots on goal, one goal and one assist. Luedtke had two shots and scored once, while sophomore
Piercen Fisher also recorded two shots on goal.
Maine Maritime used three goalkeepers in the shutout. Senior
Reagan Moynihan started and played the first half, freshman
Dylan Hawkins played the opening 30:17 of the second half and freshman
Malachi Madore finished the match. The Mariners held VTSU Lyndon to one shot.
The Mariners return to action on Sunday when they square off against No. 3 Middlebury College at 1 p.m.
