Second half surge pushes women’s basketball past No. 5 SUNY Cobleskill

CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy used a strong second-half surge to come away with a convincing 60–44 victory over SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday at Smith Gymnasium to advance to the North Atlantic Conference Championship next Saturday in Castine.

Maine Maritime (18–8) was led by sophomore guard Addison Forry who poured in a game-high 19 points on efficient 8-of-15 shooting, adding 10 rebounds for a double-double and contributing defensively with three blocks. Her all-around performance provided early momentum and set the tone for the Mariners throughout the contest over SUNY Cobleskill (15-11).

Junior Hailey Blanchard provided a spark with 13 points, hitting clutch shots from long range (2-for-2 from three) and pulling down nine rebounds as Maine Maritime controlled the glass, finishing with a 40–31 rebounding advantage. Blanchard also dished out eight assists, consistently creating opportunities for teammates.

Senior Evelyn Dagan chipped in five points and hauled in six rebounds, while junior Laney Lyle added seven points, giving the Mariners consistent scoring depth beyond their top two producers. Collectively, Maine Maritime shot 40.7% from the field (22-of-54) and 42.9% from three (9-of-21), highlighting balanced perimeter and inside scoring.

Defensively, Maine Maritime smothered Cobleskill's rhythm, holding the Fighting Tigers to 25.8% shooting overall and effectively disrupting ball movement to limit easy looks. The Mariners also excelled at the free-throw line, sinking 7-8 attempts in key moments to maintain separation in the second half.

Maine Maritime jumped out early and never relinquished control, building leads each quarter and closing the final period with an 18-point outburst to seal the home semifinal victory.

The Mariners host No. 3 University of Maine at Farmington for the NAC championship on Saturday with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
