CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy's women's basketball team fell 76-51 to No. 7 Bowdoin College Tuesday night at Smith Gymnasium. The Mariners struggled to contain the Polar Bears, who raced out to a 28-12 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
Maine Maritime (14-8) was paced by sophomore
Addison Forry, who led the Mariners with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while senior
Grace Huntwork chipped in 11 points off 4-of-6 from the floor. Senior
Evelyn Dagan added seven points and hit two triples for Maine Maritime, and junior
Hailey Blanchard contributed six points in the effort.
Bowdoin (18-1) controlled the tempo throughout, leading by double figures at halftime and maintaining the advantage into the final period. Maine Maritime battled defensively and made pockets of offensive progress but could not close the gap against Bowdoin's balanced attack.
The Mariners return to action on the road Friday against Vermont State University Lyndon at 7:30 p.m.
