JOHNSON, Vt. — Maine Maritime Academy used a balanced offensive effort and relentless defense to roll past Vermont State University–Johnson, 83-30, in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball matchup Saturday afternoon.
Maine Maritime (16-8, 15-2 NAC) seized control early and never let up, building a commanding halftime lead and outscoring the Badgers in every quarter. Maine Maritime's defensive pressure limited VSU-Johnson (5-17, 4-11 NAC) to just 30 points on the day.

Jacquelin Castro paced the Mariners with 22 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double, while junior
Hailey Blanchard added 11 points on efficient shooting. Senior
Evelyn Dagan also finished in double figures with 11 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc as Maine Maritime showcased its depth and balance.
Maine Maritime set the tone defensively from the opening tip, forcing turnovers and turning them into transition opportunities. The Mariners dominated the glass and controlled the tempo throughout, holding the Badgers to 26.5 percent shooting from the field.
The Mariners will look to carry that momentum on the road Saturday against the University of Maine at Farmington at 3 p.m.
