CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse team picked up a 12-6 North Atlantic Conference victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday.
Maine Maritime (3-3, 1-0 NAC) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead over Farmington (3-5, 0-1 NAC) in the opening quarter, backed by three first-quarter goals by junior
Bella Scolaro.
Additionally, senior
Rebecca Caron notched her 100th career goal in the opening quarter.
The Mariners continued their strong start with four more unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 9-0 advantage into the half.
The Beavers got into the scoring column in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 9-4.
Scolaro ended the Mariners scoring drought with a goal to open the fourth quarter, while junior
Julia Wade and Scolaro added late goals to secure the 12-6 win.
Scolaro finished the day with five goals and two assists, while Wade finished with a hat trick. Additionally, junior
Lillian Diversi, Caron, sophomore
Hadley Stoddard and freshman
Hayden Meffert got in on the scoring average, while Diversi added two assists and sophomore
Caitlyn Lamb added an assist.
Junior
Abby Wong tallied three caused turnovers and four ground balls, while freshman
Lauren Robinson also posted three caused turnovers along with Scolaro. Lamb and Meffert both tallied four ground balls and Wade racked up a game-high eight draw controls.
Senior
Ella Bowes got the start in cage recording one save on one shot, while sophomore
Julia Milius added five saves on 11 shots.
The Mariners return to action on Tuesday when they tangle with reigning NAC champion Husson University on the road at 5 p.m.
