NEWBURG, N.Y. — The Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse team picked up a 12-8 road victory over Mount Saint Mary's College on Thursday behind a four-goal performance by freshman
Lauren Robinson.
Maine Maritime (1-1) trailed 1-0 following a goal by Mount Saint Mary's (0-2) in the opening minutes but finished the opening quarter on a 4-1 run to lead 4-2 after the opening 15 minutes. Junior
Bella Scolaro got the Mariners scoring started off an assist by junior
Lillian Diversi and Robinson notched her first collegiate goal just over a minute later to give MMA the lead for good.
Both teams played even 2-2 through the second quarter, but MMA opened the second half with a 3-1 run before playing 3-3 over the final 15 minutes and earning the 12-8 decision.
Robinson led all scorers with four goals on only five shot attempts adding three ground balls, two caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Scolaro finished with two goals and one assist, while Diversi racked up two goals and three assists, matching junior
Julia Wade's two-goal, three-assist performance.
Additionally, senior
Rebecca Caron added two goals and a team-high six draw controls, while sophomore
Hadley Stoddard dished out an assist.
Senior
Ella Bowes stood strong in cage finishing with 13 saves in the full 60 minutes to give the Mariners their first win on the year.
MMA returns to play on Saturday when it tangles with UMass Dartmouth on the road with action scheduled to get underway at noon.
