NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. — The Maine Maritime Academy Mariners women's lacrosse dropped a nonconference matchup on the road Saturday afternoon, falling to the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs women's lacrosse, 18–6, at Cressy Field.
Maine Maritime fell to 1-2 on the young season following the setback, while UMass Dartmouth picked up its first win of the year.
The Corsairs built momentum early, scoring multiple times in the opening quarter to take control of the contest. Maine Maritime responded with offensive pressure of its own and eventually broke through to get on the board, but UMass Dartmouth maintained the advantage heading into halftime.
The Mariners continued to battle in the second half, generating scoring chances and possessions in the attacking zone. Freshman

Hadley Stoddard each found the back of the net for Maine Maritime as the visitors worked to chip away at the deficit.
Defensively, Maine Maritime worked to slow the Corsairs' attack while senior goalkeeper senior
Ella Bowes made several stops in net to keep the Mariners within striking distance during stretches of play.
Despite the effort, UMass Dartmouth continued to capitalize on its opportunities to extend the lead and secure the victory.
Maine Maritime will look to regroup as it returns to action next week when the Mariners continue their nonconference schedule hosting Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 2 p.m.
