Sailing Announces 2026 Schedule

CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy sailing team unveiled its 2026 fall schedule on Friday, featuring 18 events, including two at home in Castine.

"This fall, we will be going to more top-level events than in any previous season, with the goal of qualifying for the Atlantic Coast Championships in the open division for the first time in program history," head sailing coach Patrick DiLalla said. "We will also be hosting the NEISA Match Race Championship in conjunction with the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, Mass., and vying for a berth at match race nationals. This is all in addition to what have become regular trips to the Naval Academy to compete in the historic Shields, McMillan and Kennedy Cup events.

"All in all, it's an exciting schedule as the team reaches for new heights in all of the college sailing disciplines. I'm looking forward to seeing the team step up and explore its potential."

The Mariners open their 2026 season at home Sept. 12-13, hosting both the Penobscot Pay Open and the Harman Cup.

Following the opening weekend, MMA takes to the road for the Shields Trophy on Sept. 18-20, as well as the Hatch Brown Trophy, Regis Trophy and Barnett Trophy on Sept. 19.

Maine Maritime then hosts the NEISA Match Race Championship on Sept. 26-27 in Marblehead, Mass., while also competing for the Hoyt Trophy and Mrs. Hurst Bowl on Sept. 26-27.
