CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer team rallied late but fell to the University of New England, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Ritchie Field.
Maine Maritime (0-1) trailed 2-0 at halftime and 3-0 late in the second half before senior
James Baur scored in the 89th minute to cut the deficit to two. Sophomore
Piercen Fisher assisted on the goal.
The Mariners generated three shots in the opening half before adding five more after halftime. Maine Maritime finished with eight shots, including two on goal, while earning three corner kicks.
Senior Goalkeeper
Reagan Moynihan played all 90 minutes and made six saves. He recorded four saves in the first half and two in the second while facing 11 shots.
Maine Maritime's best opportunity to break through came late in the second half, when Baur and Fisher connected for the Mariners' lone goal with just 1:22 remaining.
The Mariners returns to action on Friday when they host Saint Joseph's College of Maine at 4:30 p.m.
