AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 2-0 shutout of the University of Maine at Augusta on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mariners took an early lead when freshman
Harlow O'Leary wasted little time recording her first collegiate goal, scoring just 3:13 into the match, giving Maine Maritime a 1-0 advantage. O'Leary finished with a team-high nine shots, including six on goal.
Maine Maritime carried its one-goal lead into halftime before adding an insurance goal late in the second half. Junior
Hadley Stoddard found the back of the net in the 87th minute to give the Mariners a 2-0 advantage. Stoddard finished with seven shots, including six on goal.
The Mariners controlled the match offensively, outshooting UMA 23-4 and putting 17 shots on target. Maine Maritime also earned three corner kicks in the first half.
Maine Maritime's defensive effort was anchored by a pair of goalkeepers. Senior
Isa Thesing started and played the first 45 minutes, making two saves, while freshman
Natalie Johnson played the second half and also recorded two saves as the Mariners combined for the shutout.
Senior
Sophia Hernandez added three shots, all of which were on goal, while sophomore
Cora Brewster recorded two shots with one on target. Junior
Eva Washko also put her lone shot on goal.
The Mariners return to action Friday when they host Albion College for their 2026 home opener beginning at 7 p.m.
