SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy generated a season-high 19 shots and put sustained pressure on the host defense throughout the second half, but the Mariners fell to Mount Holyoke College, 5-0, in non-conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon.
The Mariners showed resilience offensively after facing a 3-0 halftime deficit, outshooting Mount Holyoke 14-5 over the final 45 minutes and finishing with eight shots on goal.
Freshman
Harlow O'Leary paced the Maine Maritime attack with three shots on goal, while junior
Hadley Stoddard led the team with five total shots. Senior

Cora Brewster and
Natalee Orr each added a shot on goal for the Mariners.
One of Maine Maritime's best opportunities came in the 34th minute when Engberg rattled a shot off the crossbar. The Mariners continued to create chances after halftime, forcing eight saves from Mount Holyoke goalkeepers and earning a pair of corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper
Natalie Johnson turned in a strong performance despite the loss, recording 11 saves while facing 22 shots. Johnson made nine stops in the opening half and added two more after the break.
Maine Maritime finished with advantages in second-half shots (14-5) and matched its offensive intensity throughout the final period, highlighted by scoring chances from O'Leary, Wong, Brewster, Engberg, and freshman
Piper Aube.
The Mariners return to action on Saturday when they open North Atlantic Conference play at home against the University of Maine at Farmington as part of Spirit Day.
