WATERVILLE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team fell to No. 2 Colby College, 3-0, Wednesday night at the Margaret M. Crook Center.
Maine Maritime fell 25-23, 25-18 and 25-11 in the three sets.
Senior
Sydney Williams led the Mariners with seven kills, 12 digs and two blocks, while junior
Hannah Tate recorded a team-high 22 digs and added two service aces and a kill.
Senior
Ally Hadley finished with six kills and seven digs, and freshman
Lyla Annen added two kills, five digs and a service ace. Freshman
Kelsie Murray contributed two kills and a solo block.
Freshman
Faith Reed totaled 16 assists and eight digs to lead the Maine Maritime offense. The Mariners finished with 18 kills, three service aces, three blocks and 55 digs.
Maine Maritime opened the first set with a 4-1 lead and later battled back to tie the set at 20-20. The Mariners remained within one point at 24-23 following a Williams kill before Colby closed out the set.
The Mariners took a 9-6 lead in the second set and held an 11-9 advantage before Colby pulled ahead. Maine Maritime also recorded an early 4-3 lead in the third set before Colby extended its advantage.
Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday at the Gordon Invitational opening with Gordon College at 6:30 p.m. followed by Wheaton College and St. Lawrence University on Saturday.
