Shannon breaks program career wins record in men’s soccer’s NAC opening win over UMF

CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer team scored four second-half goals to earn a 4-0 shutout victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.

With the victory, head coach Billy Shannon moved past Travers Evans for the most wins by a men's soccer coach in program history.

After a scoreless opening half, the Mariners broke through in the 52nd minute when senior Mason Quiet finished a feed from senior James Baur for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.

Just over four minutes later, junior Garrison Fisher doubled the advantage by converting a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Fisher struck again in the 65th minute, taking an assist from senior Dillon Wilkinson and finishing for his team-leading second goal of the afternoon to push the lead to 3-0.

Baur capped the scoring in the 84th minute with his second goal of the season, giving the Mariners a 4-0 cushion.

Fisher led the attack with two goals, while Baur contributed a goal and an assist for three points. Quiet added the game-winning goal and Wilkinson recorded an assist.

Maine Maritime controlled play throughout, outshooting UMF 18-12 and holding a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Mariners also earned four corner kicks.

In goal, senior Reagan Moynihan made three saves to record the shutout.

The Mariners return to action on Saturday when they host Vermont State University Johnson for homecoming with gametime set for 3:30 p.m.
