WENHAM, Mass. — The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Gordon Invitational, opening the day with a 3-1 victory over Wheaton College (Mass.) before falling to St. Lawrence University by a 3-1 score later in the afternoon.
Against Wheaton, Maine Maritime rallied to earn a 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-15 victory. The Mariners were led by senior's
Sydney Williams and
Ally Hadley, who each recorded 13 kills. Williams added 13 digs and a match-high eight total blocks, while Hadley contributed 12 digs and three service aces.

Hannah Tate posted a match-high 21 digs. Freshman
Lyla Annen chipped in seven kills and nine digs as the Mariners totaled 67 digs and nine team blocks while holding Wheaton to a .063 hitting percentage.
After dropping the second set, Maine Maritime responded by winning the final two frames. The Mariners used a late surge in the third set to take control before dominating the fourth, breaking a 12-12 tie with a decisive 13-3 run to close out the match.
In the second contest, Maine Maritime claimed the opening set before St. Lawrence rallied for a 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 victory.
Williams once again paced the Mariners with 11 kills and added 11 digs for a double-double. Annen matched Williams with 11 kills and added 14 digs, while Hadley recorded nine kills and 18 digs. Tate anchored the back row with 22 digs, and Reed distributed 29 assists.
The Mariners controlled the opening set, turning an 18-18 tie into a 25-21 win behind a 7-3 closing run. Williams delivered three kills during the stretch as Maine Maritime seized the early advantage.
For the day, Williams totaled 24 kills, 24 digs and 11 total blocks, while Hadley added 22 kills, 30 digs and four service aces across the two matches. Annen contributed 18 kills and 23 digs, Reed recorded 62 assists, and Tate amassed 43 digs.
The Mariners return to action on Tuesday when they battle Bowdoin College on the road at 6 p.m.
