BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team fell to Bowdoin College, 25-18, 25-14, 25-12, in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday night at Morrell Gymnasium.
Senior
Sydney Williams led Maine Maritime with 12 kills on 29 attacks while hitting .379. She also recorded six total blocks, including five solo blocks. Senior
Ally Hadley added nine kills and seven digs, while freshman
Faith Reed finished with 20 assists, five digs and one kill.
Sophomore
Hannah Tate contributed eight digs and an assist, while freshman
Kelsie Murray recorded one kill, one solo block and one block assist. Freshman
Lyla Annen added one kill and two digs.
Maine Maritime opened the match with one of its strongest offensive sets, recording 12 kills without an attack error while hitting .414. The Mariners stayed within striking distance early and trailed 11-9 before Bowdoin pulled away. Maine Maritime closed the set with three straight points, including kills from
Kelsie Murray and
Sydney Williams, but Bowdoin took the opening set 25-18.
The Mariners recorded six kills in each of the final two sets. Maine Maritime battled back from an early deficit in the second set, cutting the margin to 7-5 before Bowdoin extended its lead. Williams and Hadley provided kills during the set, while Williams and Murray combined for a block to help the Mariners reach 12 points.
Maine Maritime fell behind early in the third set but continued to battle. Williams recorded two kills during the set, while Hadley and the Mariners' defense helped keep the team within reach before Bowdoin closed out the match, 25-12.
The Mariners return to action on Saturday when they host Bates College at 1 p.m. for their home opener.
