Hometown: Marion, Massachusetts

Major: Marine Transportation Operations

Anticipated Graduation Year: 2023

What made you come to Maine Maritime Academy?: I chose Maine Maritime Academy first for its unprecedented opportunities for job placement in the marine industry. I have grown up on the water and wanted a college and career that allows me to continue to spend time on the water. The regimental lifestyle will allow me to grow as a person and will offer skills that will last a lifetime. I also chose MMA to swim at a collegiate level.

What first got you interested in your sport?: I loved swimming in the ocean as a child and still do. My love for swimming grew from there.

What has been your favorite class at MMA?: Terrestrial Navigation.

What is the best advice your coach has given you?: At the end of your time in college, it will not matter whether you finished first or last. As long as you put in the time and give it your all, you will succeed in your own way. Nobody will remember you for your times, but on the impact you make on others pushing them to be better athletes, students, and people.

What motivates you to succeed?: My team motivates me to do the best I can, in the pool and everywhere else.

What is your prized possession?: My PRS acoustic guitar.

What is your favorite book? (Non-academic): The art of racing in the rain.

What is something that people would be surprised to learn about you?: I have an affinity for watchmaking and skiing.

What are your hopes for the future?: I hope to graduate with my third mates license and ship out. Later I intend to transition to a shoreside job in the naval architecture field.

What is your favorite spot in Castine/on Campus? Why?: Witherlee Woods or the record shop! Both are great places to spend time in during a relaxing weekend.

Tell us about something you are involved with here at MMA?: I am involved in training staff serving as a third class stryker this year. I am also on the honor board and I am the Vice President of SAAC.

What advice do you have for incoming freshman?: Don't Stress! You've made an excellent choice. Take every opportunity to make friends and go out of your comfort zone your freshman year, you may find something you really enjoy.

What is your greatest challenge?: Procrastination.

What has been your favorite moment so far while playing at MMA?: Placing fifth in the 200 butterfly at the NEISDA championships last year and beating a childhood rival.

How has the InCommand Leadership Programming helped you as a student-athlete?: I have had the opportunity to lead by example, and having the ability to have a quality connection with all members of my team.

Which teammate has had the biggest impact on you? Why?: My roommate John Gilpin, he's my best friend at school and has added many laughs to long practices.

Tell us about something outside of MMA and athletics that you are really interested in: Playing guitar and hiking.

Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?: Either Tom Brady or Michael Phelps.
