Box Score CASTINE, MAINE -- Abdullah Alkhayyat drilled a shot in the 102 minute to left Maine Maritime Academy to a 3-2, double overtime, win over Castleton in a North Atlantic Conference game Sunday. The wins, the Mariners' fourth-straight, improved MMA to 6-1 NAC, 9-5 overall while the Spartans fell to 3-4, 9-6.
Benjamin Russell (Farmington, Maine) netted a shot, off a pass from David Clough, late in the second half to even the game at 2. The Spartans overcame a 1-0 defecit with two unanswered scoresto end the first half and begin the second. Zac Conlogue converted a penalty kick in the 41st minute and Bryce Kaler found the back of the net off a feed by Trevor Kotrady. MMA struck first in the 23rd minute when Alkhayyat (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) fed Nicholas George.
The Spartans held a 23-20 shot advantaged but Mariners' keeper William Trace Lacour (Charlottesville, Va.) was up to the task and finished with 11 saves. Castleton goalie Nate Koenemann stopped six shots on goal.
MMA returns to action 7 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas.
