Box Score POULTNEY, Vt. – Maine Maritime tallied three goals in the first half to cruise to a 5-1 North Atlantic Conference victory over Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon.
Matt Leblanc (Dayton, Maine) opened the scoring in the 27th minute for the Mariners, when he found the back of the net on Ike Doiron's (Wilton, Maine) corner kick.
In the 33rd minute, Bryan Soucy (Windham, Maine) made it 2-0 Maine Maritime, when he picked up a loose ball just outside the 18-yard box and lined a shot over the outstretched arms of Eagles' keeper Samuel Nichols.
Tom Samson (Waterville, Maine) found the back of the net on a rebounded shot, to put the Mariners ahead 3-0, when Nichols was unable to maintain a handle on a previous shot by Kyle Haslam (Lamoine, Maine).
Green Mountain got on the scoreboard early in the second half when Nate Berner-Tobin hit a long lob shot from about 30 yards out that snuck over the head of Mariners' keeper Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.).
Samson added his second goal of the game in the 57th minute on a pass from Zach Pitcairn (Lincolnville, Maine) and Jonathan Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) was in the right place at the right time to tap home the free ball, with less than a minute remaining to give the Mariners, the 5-1 victory.
Maine Maritime outshot the Eagles 24-5 and held a decisive 13-0 edge in corner kicks.
Joshua Reeks picked up the win for the Mariners stopping three of the four shots he faced, while Michael Rust (Bridgton, Maine) played the final ten minutes in net without having to make a save. Green Mountain received seven saves from Nichols in the loss.
Maine Maritime improves to 4-10-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the NAC. The Mariners travel to take on Castleton tomorrow at 2:30 pm in their final regular season game.
