CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to Colby-Sawyer College, 22-8 on Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field, in North Atlantic Conference action.

The Mariners scored four-straight goals to close the Colby-Sawyer lead to six early in the second half, but the Chargers held on for the victory.

In their first NCAA game at Ritchie Field, the Mariners were led by a hat trick by Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.). Ally Fuehrer picked up two goals, while Leah Libby (Paris, Maine), Patricia Dunford (Walkersville, Md.), and Rachael Redles (Coopersburg, Pa.) grabbed the other scores for the Mariners.

Fuehrer recorded a team-high draw controls, while Libby scooped up four ground balls. Ashlee Knight (Anson, Maine) recorded 15 saves in net for the Mariners. 

Alyssia Janak and Sara Berry led the way for the Chargers with four goals apiece, while Molly Mulcahy, Nicole Lavinge and Caitlyn Whearty added hat tricks for the visitors.

Lavigne picked up 11 draw controls to lead the Chargers, Berry picked up a game-high five ground balls. Meghan Castellano and Kelsey Doran combined for five saves in net for the Chargers.

In a ceremony prior to the game, Maine Maritime Academy President, Dr. William J. Brennan placed the ball for the first NCAA women's lacrosse draw control in Maine Maritime Academy history.

Maine Maritime Academy falls to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in NAC play, while the Chargers improve to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Mariners return to action on Wednesday, March 25 when they host Thomas College for another NAC contest at 4:30 p.m. on Ritchie Field.
