February 14, 2015: Lyndon State 48 – Maine Maritime 40
The Mariners jumped out to an early 8-0 lead highlighted by six points from Jillian Perron with 16:06 remaining in the first half. Lyndon State used a 9-1 run to close the Mariner lead to 15-13 with 8:45 remaining, and outscored Maine Maritime 6-4 in the final minutes to tie the game up at 19-19 at the half.
In the second half the two teams battled back and forth until Allison Brown sparked a 15-2 run with three-pointer, to give the Hornets a 44-33 lead with a little over a minute remaining. Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) hit a three-pointer to close the lead to 44-36, but Lyndon was sharp from the line to close out the game, and took the victory.
McConkey tallied 12 points, three rebounds and an assist to lead the Mariners. Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) recorded 11 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Brown led Lyndon with 11 points, while Aimee Thompson added eight points and seven boards.
February 15, 2015: Maine Maritime 52 – Johnson State 48
Both teams came out slow to start the opening stanza, only scoring a combined 31 points in the first fifteen minutes of play. The teams traded leads twice and knotted things up four separate times before concluding the half tied 21-21.
Maine Maritime came out fast in the second half, scoring nine unanswered points to build a 30-21 lead until a Sarah Voorhis lay-up halted the Mariners. Johnson worked to close the gap tying things up 46-46 with seconds to go, but the Badgers were unable to overcome the Mariners, who shot 9-10 from the line in the final minute to secure the victory and the season sweep.
Maggie McConkey led the Mariners with a game-high 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and an assist, while teammate Kristi Willey grabbed a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Dom Carter-Stanley and Brittany Robertson each tallied 10 points for the Badgers, in the losing effort.
Maine Maritime Academy's Last Game: The Mariners fell to Husson University, 74-57 on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles held a 14-9 advantage after the first quarter, and outscored the Mariners 17-7 in the second quarter to take a 31-16 lead into the intermission.
The Mariners score eight-unanswered points to open up the final quarter, cutting Husson's lead to 53-38, but the Eagles held on to take the 74-57 victory.
Tess Clark (Spring, Texas) led the Mariners with a double-double, tallying 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, while Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) added 14 points, six rebounds and Mikayla Charters (Newport, Maine), Maggie McConkey and Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) each contributed five points.
Lyndon's Last Game: Lyndon fell to Maine-Farmington 69-55, last Saturday.
Mikayla Hodge recorded her second-straight double-double scoring a game-high 20 points and 18 rebounds. Marley Harmon added 11 points and four rebounds and Abby Salvadore recorded nine rebounds and eight points.
Johnson State's Last Game: Johnson State College blew a close game wide open in the fourth quarter to defeat Thomas College, 72-48 on Saturday night. Leading 45-43 after three, the Badgers outscored the Terriers, 27-5, in the final frame en route to the victory.
Thomas led 16-10 after the first quarter, finishing the period on an 11-2 run. The Terriers eventually stretched the lead to 21-10 on a Kelly Macomber layup with 5:33 to play in the first half. A three-pointer by Johnson State's Amanda Bednarick cut the lead to just four at 24-20, but Thomas responded with buckets on three straight possessions to get the lead back to 10 with 1:51 to play.
The Badgers scored the final three baskets of the half, giving the Terriers just a four-point lead headed to the locker room.
The run continued in the third quarter as Johnson State scored the first seven points to lead 35-30 before Ashleigh Gagne drained a three-pointer with 6:12 left in the quarter. She would add a free throw and two more baskets over the next four minutes, helping to draw Thomas within one at the 2:17 mark.
Baskets by Sarah Voorhis and Bednarick pushed the lead back to five, but a free throw by Brenna Hutchinson and a layup by Macomber gave Johnson State only a 45-43 advantage headed to the final quarter.
The Badgers took over in the final quarter, outrebounding the Terriers 16-5, including 8-0 on the offensive glass. Numerous second chances allowed Johnson State to shoot 10-for-20 from the field in the final frame alone. Thomas was limited to just 2-for-11 shooting while committing 10 turnovers and eight personal fouls to JSC's three and two.
Ashleigh Gagne posted game-highs with 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Thomas. Jordan Agger-Barnes added 12 points and five rebounds, while Tess McClenahan had five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Johnson State had four players in double figures, led by 15 from Amanda Bednarick off the bench. Starters Domonique Carter-Stanley and Allyson Bruckner had 12 points apiece, Nicole Menard chipped in with 11. Ashley Goddard had a team-best eight rebounds and Bruckner added seven and six steals.
The Badgers, who shot progressively better as the game went on, finished shooting 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the field with six three-pointers while hitting 10 of 16 shots at the free throw line. The Terriers finished the game shooting 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the field. Johnson State held a 45-35 rebounding edge and had 19 steals to Thomas' eight.
The Mariners: Maine Maritime averages 57.1 points, 38.4 rebounds and 13.1 assists per game, while shooting 37.9 percent from the field. The Mariners are allowing opponents to score an average of 55.4 points per game.
Alayne Felix leads the team with 17.5 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game, while Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine) leads the team with an average of 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
The Hornets: Lyndon averages 54.3 points, 48.4 rebounds and 11.1 assists per game, while shooting 32 percent from the field. The Hornets are allowing opponents to score an average of 62.3 points per game.
Mikayla Hodge leads the team with an average of 11.3 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game, Victoria Carlson leads Lyndon with 2.7 assists per game and 2.5 steals per game.
The Badgers: Johnson State averages 59.5 points, 41.4 rebounds and 11.8 assists per game, while shooting 35.9 percent from the field. The Badgers are allowing opponents to score an average of 61.1 points per game.
Domonique Carter-Stanley leads the team with an average of 13.5 points per game and 2.8 steals per game, Kasey DeGreenia leads Johnson State with 7.5 rebounds per game and Nicole Menard leads the team with 2.8 assists per game.
