Box Score BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell 14-5 to SUNY Maritime on Saturday afternoon in day two of the Second Annual Maritime Classic hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
The Privateers jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Rachael Redles (Coopersburg, Pa.) put the Mariners on the board with an unassisted goal at 15:26 to make it 4-1. Redles added two more goals in the first half to secure the hat-trick as the Mariners entered halftime down 9-3.
SUNY Maritime scored two goals to open up the second half, taking a 11-3 lead but the Mariners continued to fight, notching goals from Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.) and Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) to make it 13-5. The Privateers added a goal in the final three minutes to hang on for the victory.
Redles led the Mariners with three goals, on eight shots on goal, Wilson scooped up a game-high four ground balls and won two draw controls, and Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) recorded 11 saves in net for Maine Maritime.
Kristina Deleva scored a game-high four goals for the Privateers and dished out an assist, while causing two turnovers, Jane Quinn and Ciara Murphy each added three goals, and Catherine Pfundstein added a pair of goals. Christina Finnen recorded six saves in net in the victory for SUNY.
The Mariners fall to 0-1 on the season and will play Massachusetts Maritime tomorrow at 2:00 pm, while the Privateers improve to 2-0 and claim the 2016 Maritime Cup after defeating both Massachusetts Maritime and Maine Maritime.
