PURCHASE, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to Purchase on Saturday afternoon, 16-4 in non-conference play.

The Panthers jumped out a 9-0 lead in the first half, led by three goals from both Zoe Hines and Samantha Rich.

In the second half, Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) put the Mariners on the board at 22:23 on a pass from Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.). Obshatkin found the back of the net at 21:37 to cut the deficit to 10-2, but the Panthers scored three-straight to stop the Maine Maritime run. Morgan Maxwell (Windham, Maine) scored her first-career goal at 14:11 to make it 13-3, but once again Purchase added three-straight to build a 16-3 lead. Obshatkin added her second goal of the day with 4:22 remaining in the game.

Obshatkin led the Mariners with two goals and an assist.

Rich ended the afternoon with a game-high five goals for the Panthers and won seven draw controls, while Hines tallied four scores and Kelly Turtell scooped up a game-high five ground balls.

Maine Maritime's Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) stopped seven shots in net, while Cynthia Plackis tallied three saves in net for Purchase.

The Mariners fall to 0-3 on the season, while Purchase improves to 2-1. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow against USMMA at 11:00 am.
