CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon, 11-5, in North Atlantic Conference action on Ritchie Field.

Rachael Redles (Coopersburg, Maine), Mary Shea (Brownfield, Maine) and Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) put the Mariners up 3-0 with goals in the opening five minutes of play, but the Eagles fought back with goals from Megan Scully and Rachel Aramburu to close the gap to just one goal.

Redles added a goal at 16:07 to give the Mariners a two-goal lead, but Scully connected on a free position shot and Maegan Laymon added a goal with 7:58 to go to send the teams into the half notched at 4-4.

The Eagles scored four-unanswered goals to open up the second half, before Wilson found the back of a net on a break away, beating her defender and Green Mountain goalie Chelsea Wimble to cut the deficit to 8-5, but Green Mountain scored three-straight to close out the game, claiming the 11-5 victory.

Wilson and Redles led the Mariners with two goals each, while Shea tallied her first-career goal. Haley Eckert (Harrington, Maine) led the Mariners with a game-high three caused turnovers and Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) tallied nine saves in net, while scooping up a team-high four ground balls.

Scully led all scorers with four goals, and four assists, while Aramburu tallied a hat trick and Martha Howe recorded a pair of goals. Laymon and Legnard added the other scores for Green Mountain, and Catie Brewster won eight draw controls. Wimble stopped five shots in net for the Eagles.

The Mariners fall to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in the NAC, while the Eagles improve to 2-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Waterville, Maine to take on Thomas College at 7:00 pm.
