CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to Wheelock College 14-3, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action on Ritchie Field.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) found Rachael Redles (Coopersburg, Pa.) open in front of the net to put the Mariners on the board at 13:51. Mary Shea (Brownfield, Maine) connected with Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhineback, N.H.) for her first-career goal, to make it 4-2. Georgia Schindele added a goal with six seconds to play in the first half to send the Wildcats into the intermission with a 5-2 lead.

James dished out another assist to start the second half, this time finding Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.) to make it 5-3. Wheelock scored nine-straight to claim the victory,

Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) led the Mariners with five ground balls, while also causing a turnover and tallying a draw control. Wilson started the game in net, and tallied four saves in just over 46 minutes in goal. James ended the game in net, stopping three shots in just under 13 minutes of play. Obshatkin and Haley Eckert (Harrington, Maine) each caused three turnovers, while Eckert led the Mariners with four draw controls.

Colleen Macdonald led the Wildcats with four goals, while Schindele, Alexah Mellis and Emma Marrs each added a hat trick. Marrs and Gabrielle Haywood recorded three caused turnovers each, while Marrs also let the team with six ground balls. Carina Lawrence earned the win in net for Wheelock, recording seven saves.

The Mariners fall to 0-10 overall, while Wheelock improves to 6-3 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action on Thursday, April 14 at Southern Maine.
