Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to the University of Southern Maine on Thursday evening, 19-1 in non-conference action on Hannaford Field.
The Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening five minutes of the game, and built a 10-goal lead before Rachael Redles (Coopersburg, Pa.) put the Mariners on the board with 5:59 remaining in the first half.
Lauren Lessard added another goal for Southern Maine at 2:54, to send the Huskies into halftime with an 11-1 lead. Southern Maine scored eight goals in the second half to claim the victory over the Mariners.
Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhineback, N.Y.), Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.) and Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) scooped up three ground balls each, while Obshatkin led the Mariners with two caused turnovers. James earned the start in net, making five saves in the first half, while Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) stopped six shots in net in the second half.
Sam Campobasso led the Huskies with four goals, while Lessard, Kenzie Kiddler, Sarah Pelligrinelli and Tayla Smedberg each net hat tricks. Hannah Everett led Southern Maine with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers and Hannah Lasalle led all players with 12 draw controls. Miriam Wood earned the win in net for the Huskies, recording two saves.
The Mariners fall to 0-11 on the season, while the Huskies improve to 3-6 overall. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday at Castleton University for a 12:00 p.m., North Atlantic Conference matchup.
