Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.) scored twice as Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to Castleton University on Saturday afternoon 18-2, in North Atlantic Conference action.
The Spartans went on a 5-0 run to open up the game. Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) connected with Obshatkin with 18:22 to go in the first half to cut the deficit to just four goals but Castleton scored 12-straight to take a 17-1 lead with 14:13 remaining in the game. Obshatkin added her second goal of the game, and eighth of the season, at 5:01.
Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) tallied 18 saves in net for the Mariners, while scooping up three ground balls and causing a team-high two turnovers, Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhineback, N.Y.) also scooped up three ground balls and Haley Eckert (Harrington, Maine) led all players with five draw controls.
Brianna MacKay led the Spartans with six goals, Holly Downing added a pair of goals, and 10 other Castleton players found the back of the net. Rachel Bombardier led the Spartans with three caused turnovers and Megan Wood scooped up a game-high four ground balls. Meghan Els earned the win in net playing the first half, and Samantah Hebb tallied four saves in the final 30 minutes in goal.
The Mariners fall to 0-12 on the season and 0-5 in the NAC, while the Spartans improve to 7-5 overall and 5-0 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, April 19 when they host Maine-Farmington at 4:30 p.m. on Ritchie Field.
