LEICESTER, Mass. – Shelby O'Neil (Bar Harbor, Maine) tallied a career-high six goals to lead Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse to 12-0 victory over Becker College in non-conference action at Alumni Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Mariners improve to 1-1 on the season after recording their first-ever shutout victory, while Becker falls to 0-2 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, March 24 when they host New England College for their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener at 4:00 pm.

O'Neil put the Mariners on the board with her first goal of the game at 23:28 and teammate Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied her first goal of the game just a minute later to give the Mariners a 2-0 advantage. Maine Maritime never looked back, taking a 10-0 advantage into halftime. O'Neil added a pair of goals in the second half to give the Mariners the 12-0 victory.

O'Neil added six draw controls, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist to go with her six goals, while Adams tallied a career-high four goals, two draw controls and two ground balls. Madison Savary (Bath, Maine) and Charlette Bradley (Slidell, La.) chipped in with goals, while Olivia Le Blanc (Confier, Colo.) added four ground balls, an assist and a caused turnover.

Cassandra Nelson led Becker with four shots, two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover, while both Sydney Theriault and Samantha Carter scooped up three ground balls.

Maine Maritime's Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) earned the victory in net, stopping all five shots she faced, while Becker's Nikolle Storey tallied 10 saves in the loss.

The Mariners dominated from the draw, tallying 10 draw controls compared to the Hawks' three, and won the battle of ground balls 21-16.
