Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to Colby-Sawyer College 17-4, on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Veitch Turf Field.
With the loss the Mariners fall to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the NAC, while the Chargers improve to 8-5 on the season and 4-2 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Monday, April 23 at Thomas College for the final game of the regular season at 5:00 pm.
Madison Savary (Bath, Maine) put the Mariners on the board just 31 seconds into the game, but the Chargers responded with eight unanswered goals to take an 8-1 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Savary added her second goal of the game to cut the Chargers' lead to 8-2, but Colby-Sawyer went on a four-goal run to close out the half and take a 12-2 advantage into halftime.
Shelby O'Neil (Bar Harbor, Maine) and Morgan Libby (Brunswick, Maine) added goals for the Mariners in the second half, but the Chargers hung on for the 17-4 victory.
Savary led the Mariners with two goals and a draw control, while Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied a team-high five draw controls and three caused turnovers, while also scooping up three ground balls. Libby ended the afternoon with three ground balls, three draw controls, a caused turnover and a goal.
Sierra Schuster led the Chargers with six goals, one assist, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. Nicole Lavigne added a hat trick, one assist, 10 draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover and Brittany Ireland and Jess Tattersall chipped in with two goals each.
In net, Maine Maritime's Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) recorded eight saves, four ground balls and a caused turnover in the loss, while Colby-Sawyer's Kailyn Lapham stopped six shots in the victory.
The Chargers edged the Mariners in ground balls, 23-15 and draw controls 12-11.
