NCAA Division III Regionals: Women's Cross Country

Saturday's Race: Bowdoin College will host the NCAA Division III New England Regional Men's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 16th at Pickard Fields. Saturday's meet will begin with the 8k men's race at 11:00 a.m. followed by the 6k women's race at 12:15 p.m.

The Mariners: Abigail L'Abbé (Topsham, Maine), Lily Cook (Southwest Harbor, Maine), Nerissa Cyr (Caribou, Maine), Jessica Lindsay (Limestone, Maine), Hannah Butland (Cumberland, Maine), Rachel Bunker (Ellsworth, Maine), and Hannah Skorapa (Lincoln, Maine) will represent the Mariners at Saturday's race. 

Last Year's Winners: MIT won last year's regional championship, last year's top finisher Kaitlyn Mooney from the United States Coast Guard Academy returns in her junior season.

Last Season: Sierra James placed 271st out of 399 runners to lead Maine Maritime Academy women's cross country to a 54th place finish at last year's NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships hosted by Bowdoin College.

James completed the 6k course with a time of 26:40.59 to lead the Mariners. L'Abbé finished in 339th with a time of 28:27.84, Robyn Larrabee placed 364th with a time of 30:01.94. Alex Allen finished right behind Larrabee in 365th with a time of 30:04.80, while Catherine Cornell rounded out the top five finishers for the Mairners in 377th with a time of 32:29.77.

Deja Vu: Earlier this season the Mariners competed at the Bowdoin Invtational II which was also hosted by Bowdoin College on Ocotber 26. The Mariners placed fourth as a team at the event.

L'Abbé was the Mariners top finisher placing 34th with a time of 28:12.7 on the 6k course, Cyr placed three spots back in 37th with a time of 29:14.1. Cook placed 42nd with a time of 30:06.9, while Milo Cook-Sharp (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished 44th with a time of 30:11.6, and Lindsay placed 45th with a time of 36:24.9.

The Race: The women's race is slated to start at 12:15 p.m. and will cover 6,000 meters.

What's Next: The top two teams from each race will receive the New England region's two automatic qualifying spots for the NCAA Division III National Championship race on November 23 at the EP Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky, hosted by the  Louisville Sports Commission and Spalding University. 

Other top finishing teams from each region will vie for at-large bids into the 32-team field that will be announced Sunday afternoon. The top seven individuals in each region from non-qualifying teams will also make the national championship field.
