Second-Half Surge Elevates Mariners Over Thomas

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fought back from a first half deficit to defeat Thomas College 13-6 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Bernatchez Field.

How it Happened: The two teams exchanged goals early in the game until the Terriers used a three-goal run to take a 5-2 lead. The Mariners responded with two-unanswered goals late in the first half to cut the Terriers' lead to 5-4 entering halftime.

Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) scored a goal with 28:27 to go, and sparked a six-goal run for the Mariners. The Terriers found the back of the net once in the second half, while the Mariners continued to add on the goals and cruised to the 13-6 victory.  

Inside the Numbers: Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.), Madison Barry (Stoneham, Mass.) and Madison Savary (Bath, Maine) each tallied hat tricks to lead the Mariners. Adams led all players with nine draw controls. James, Julia Dillon (Norway, Maine), Olivia Le Blanc (Conifer, Colo.), and Christina Wilson added the other goals for the Mariners, while Wilson led Maine Maritime with five ground balls and five caused turnovers and Sydney Cole (Westbrook, Maine) captured her second win in net, stopping five shots. 

Alexis Felch and Mackenzie Driscoll led the Terriers with two goals each, Felch also led the team with three ground balls while Nikki Bradstreet led Thomas with four draw controls and Tanasia Eldon added a team-high four caused turnovers. Arianna Cannistraro collected 10 saves in net for Thomas. 

The Mariners edged the Terriers in ground balls 20-17 and draw controls 13-8.

Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the NAC, while the Terriers fall to 3-6 on the season and 0-2 in NAC play. The Mariners will return to Waterville on Wednesday evening to take on UMaine-Farmington at 4:00 pm for a NAC matchup.
