Mariners Fall to Farmington

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to UMaine-Farmington, 16-9 on Wednesday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Thomas College.

How it Happened: The Beavers jumped out to a 5-0 lead, before the Mariners scored four-unanswered goals of their own to close the gap to 5-4 with 15:13 remaining in the first half. UMF used a three-goal run to rebuild a 8-4 lead but Olivia Le Blanc (Conifer, Colo.) scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 8-6. Isabella Monbouquette added a goal in the final seconds of the first half to send the Beavers into halftime with a 9-6 lead.

Farmington scored four-unanswered goals to open up the second half, and held the Mariners to just three goals for the remainder of the game, to claim the 16-9 victory.

Inside the Numbers: Madison Barry (Stoneham, Mass.) led the Mariners with four goals, three ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.

Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied a hat trick, a team-best five draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover, while Le Blanc ended the afternoon with two goals, a ground ball and a caused turnover, and Sydney Cole (Westbrook, Maine) tallied five saves, four ground balls and a caused turnover in net for the Mariners.

Monbouquette led the Beavers with six goals, two assists, a ground ball and a caused turnover, while teammate Kaya Backman tallied five goals, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Samantha Cross tallied a game-high seven draw controls and five ground balls, while adding two caused turnovers and a goal and in net Heather Boland tallied 11 saves for the win.

The Beavers edged the Mariners in ground balls, 18-17 and draw controls, 13-12.

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the NAC, while the Beavers improve to 6-7 on the season and 2-2 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action at NVU-Lyndon on Saturday at 2:00 pm for a NAC matchup.
