BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to SUNY Maritime, 17-1 on Saturday morning at the Maritime Classic hosted by Massachusetts Maritime.

How it Happened: SUNY Maritime jumped out to a 9-0 lead before Maine Maritime's Amber Card (Bowdoin, Maine) found the back of the net on a pass from teammate Renaissance Lyman (Camden, Maine) at 11:35. The Privateers added four-unanswered goals to take a 13-1 lead into halftime and added four goals in the second half to claim the victory.

Inside the Numbers: Card led the Mariners offensively, with her second goal of the season. Lily Cook (Southwest Harbor, Maine) contributed three ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover, while Catherine Mahoney (Plymouth, Mass.) and Brooke Foley (Mystic, Conn.) each chipped in with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Krista Deleva led the Privateers with four goals, five assists, five ground balls and three draw controls, while Sara Wright tallied 11 draw controls, four goals, four ground balls, two assists and a caused turnover, and Nicole Johnson added four goals, eight ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.

In net, Maine Maritime's Natasha Olearcek (Little Cranberry Island, Maine) tallied three saves and three ground balls, while SUNY's Esmeralda Hernandez collected two saves.

The Privateers held a 16-4 advantage in draw controls, a 27-8 advantage in shots, and a 33-23 advantage in ground balls.

Up Next: Maine Maritime dips to 0-2 on the season, while the Privateers improve to 3-1 overall. The Mariners return to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 8 when they take on Massachusetts Maritime in the final day of the Maritime Classic at 11:00 am.
