BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to Massachusetts Maritime, 17-2 on Sunday in the final day of the Maritime Classic at Clean Harbors Stadium.

How it Happened: The Buccaneers started the game on a 13-0 run to claim the victory.

Inside the Numbers: Kristen Gier (Cary, Ill.) led the Mariners with a goal, an assist and a ground ball, while Chloe Smedley (York, Maine) added a goal, a team-high three draw controls and two caused turnovers and Olivia Harriman (Orrington, Maine) tallied a team-best four ground balls.

Anna Deely led the Buccaneers with six goals, an assist, eight draw controls and four caused turnovers, while Casey Sullivan tallied four goals, an assist, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and a draw control and Alyssa Blumenthal tallied three goals, six assists, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Grace Calvert tallied a game-high six caused turnovers while also adding three ground balls and two draw controls for Mass. Maritime and Jennifer Leung scooped up a game-best seven ground balls to go with three caused turnovers.

In net, Natasha Olearcek (Little Cranberry Island, Maine) tallied five saves in the loss for the Mariners, while Laura Kleber earned the win in net for the Buccaneers in almost 22 minutes of shutout play and teammate Sue Bird tallied one save in just over 38 minutes of action in net.

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 0-3 on the year, while the Buccaneers improve to 2-1 overall. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, March 14 when they host Husson University for a non-conference matchup at 3:00 pm.
