Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime fell to Lancaster Bible College, 21-13 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
How it Happened: The Mariners got off to an early lead when Lily Cook (Southwest Harbor, Maine) found the back of the net off a pass from Hazel Stoddard (Old Orchard Beach, Maine). The Chargers answered with a goal of their own before the Mariners quickly regained the lead when Stoddard scored her first of six goals. Lancaster Bible scored two quick goals in return before Stoddard scored her second of the afternoon. The Chargers added four more goals to their lead to make the score 9-4 with 12:16 remaining in the first half. Beth Labbe (Brunswick, Maine) and Amber Card (Bowdoin, Maine) hit back-to-back goals for the Mariners before the Chargers extended their lead by four goals. Stoddard ended the half with an unassisted goal to bring the score to 13-7 in favor of the Chargers.
After the half, Aubrey Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) sparked the Mariners offense after Cook found her for an open goal. The Chargers answered with four more goals of their own, extending their lead to 16-8 after the third quarter. The Mariners and Chargers went back and forth in the final quarter. Stoddard had the hot hand, scoring three of the Mariners five goals in the fourth quarter, while Card and Labbe each pitched in one as the Chargers scored five goals in the fourth to claim a 21-13 victory.
Inside the Numbers: Stoddard led the Mariners with a team-high six goals, two ground balls, one assist, and one caused turnover. Labbe recorded her first career hat trick, while Card chipped in two goals and Cook and Mitchell added one goal each. Olivia Harriman (Orrington, Maine), Card, and Olivia Alejandro (Houston, Texas) each had three caused turnovers defensively for the Mariners.
Kendal Ream scored a game-high 10 goals, along with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Katelynn Perrotta and Kayla Steiner added five goals each, while Natalie Boltz picked up a game-high five ground balls.
Charlotte Rose (Newark, Del.) tallied four saves in goal for the Mariners, while Alexis Garrett recorded 10 saves for the Chargers.
The Chargers held a 32-29 advantage in shots and a 30-21 advantage in ground balls over the Mariners.
