Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's lacrosse beat Thomas College, 13-6 in home opener Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened: Beth Labbe (Brunswick, Maine) opened up the scoring for the Mariners off a pass from Aubrey Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.). Hazel Stoddard (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) added to the lead and Olivia Fay (New Braintree, Mass.) scored her first career goal to make the score 3-0 to start the game. Mary LaRochelle put the Terriers on the board before Amber Card (Bowdoin, Maine) answered with an unassisted goal. Stoddard and Mitchell both added a goal each to extend the Mariners lead to five at the end of the first quarter. Mitchell found Darby Cendoma (Livonia, N.Y.) for her first career goal to start the second quarter. The Terriers scored quickly after, then Stoddard answered with her third goal of the afternoon off a pass from Mitchell. LaRochelle ended the half with a goal to bring the score to 8-3 in favor of the Mariners.
The Terriers scored first in the second half before Lily Cook (Southwest Harbor, Maine) scored three consecutive goals for her first career hat-trick to make the score 11-4. The Terriers finished the quarter with a goal to bring the score to 11-5. Stoddard found the back of the net to start the fourth quarter before Thomas answered with an unassisted goal. Mitchell found Cook for one last goal on their way to claim a 13-6 victory over the Terriers.
Inside the Numbers: Stoddard led the Mariners with four goals and four ground balls, Mitchell added in one goal, four assists, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Card picked up a team-high six ground balls and Labbe tied a game-high three caused turnovers.
LaRochelle led the Terriers with five goals and three ground balls. Anna Chadwick picked up a game-high 10 ground balls and Scarlett Raymond-Ayer tied a game-high three caused turnovers.
Charlotte Rose (Newark, Del.) tallied 11 saves in 60 minutes for the Mariners, while Lizzy Gotay tallied 12 for the Terriers.
The Mariners held a 37-28 advantage in shots and 28-26 advantage in ground balls over the Terriers.
