Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's lacrosse beat Husson University, 20-3 on Wednesday evening.
How it Happened: After a scoreless ten minutes to start the game, Aubrey Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) found the back of the net to put the Mariners on the board. The Eagles quickly answered with a goal to tie the game. The Mariners then scored four goals in two minutes, one from Lily Cook (Southwest Harbor, Maine), two from Hazel Stoddard (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) one being a man-down goal, and another man-down goal for Mitchell with one second left in the first quarter to make the score 5-1. Beth Labbe (Brunswick, Maine) opened up the second quarter with a man-down goal to continue a 10-0 run for the Mariners to make the score 11-1. Husson answered with a goal before Stoddard scored her sixth goal of the night, making the score 12-2 going into halftime.
Cook opened the second half with a goal before Stoddard found the back of the net for two goals, breaking the single-game record for goals in a game. Amber Card (Bowdoin, Maine) scored her second goal of the night before Husson found the back of the net to make the score 16-3 at the end of the third quarter. The Mariners dominated the fourth quarter, scoring four goals on their way to claiming a 20-3 victory over the Eagles.
Inside the Numbers: Stoddard led the Mariners with 10 goals off 15 shots, six draw controls, five caused turnovers, and four ground balls. Cook and Mitchell both added three goals each, and Mitchell chipped in three draw controls, three ground balls, and one caused turnover as well. Card and Labbe caused three turnovers each.
Sophia Gomez, Devyn Veits, and Natalie Whitten each scored one goal for the Eagles. Emma Begin picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Charlotte Rose (Newark, Del.) tallied six saves for the Mariners, while Emma Begin recorded 11 for the Eagles.
The Mariners held a 44-14 advantage in shots and a 24-10 advantage in ground balls over the Eagles.
